Origins
Also known as alpargatas, the espadrille has been around for many moons, the first dating as far back as 13th Century and because we honour tradition, our shoes come from España and France keeping with the heritage of craftsmanship.
Ours like so many before us is a story driven by an appreciation for simple, authentic shoes that are light, versatile and comfortable.
Esperance is a fusion of España & France and is about the outdoors whether it be the beach, the city, the vineyard; it embodies simple living in harmony with nature. It's a lifestyle.
Always handmade
It is in the Pyrenees that the espadrille
was pioneered, and here the craft of
making the traditional espadrille has
been perfected to an art.
Only premium fabrics
Made in the hands of the local experts in an ancient art, our collection is original, timeless and artisanale crafted.
Every pair of espadrilles are unique, we choose the textiles of our collection with New Zealand in mind. Ethical sourcing and sustainability is an integral part of us, we value quality whilst respecting nature and together these elements embody the spirit of Esperance and we believe simplicity is beauty.

The workmanship that goes into creating our shoes speaks for itself, it is a long process but we know good things take time.
